SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Hires MEDS to Staff Emergency Department

November 8th, 2016

MEDS has been selected to provide emergency department staffing and management services for SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. Good Samaritan Hospital is part of SSM Health in Illinois, one of the largest and fastest-growing healthcare networks in south central Illinois. The 134-bed facility opened in January 2013 and has a 24,000 annual-visit ED.

The hospital selected MEDS based upon the company’s track record of recruiting and retaining core groups of board-certified emergency physicians for similar practice environments. For over 13 years, MEDS has been serving a sister SSM Health hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, IL.

“It’s an honor to work with Good Samaritan, who shares our commitment to high-quality patient care and satisfaction,” said Dr. Len Glover, President and Chief Medical Officer at MEDS. “Our deep experience in emergency medicine has enabled our other hospital clients to better serve their local communities, and we look forward to supporting the Mt. Vernon area for many years to come.”

Close to St. Louis, Good Samaritan Hospital offers a wide range of healthcare services including cardiology, oncology, and orthopedics. For three consecutive years, Healthgrades has presented Good Samaritan Hospital with the Patient Safety Excellence Award. In 2014, Quest by Premier Inc. recognized Good Samaritan Hospital with the Citation of Merit Award for Outstanding Patient Care.

St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, IL, which MEDS has served for more than 20 years, now collaborates on medical evaluations for pediatric patients with SLUCare physicians at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Hospital.

Ranked in U.S. News’ 2015-2016 Best Children’s Hospitals, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital has been caring for the children of St. Louis and beyond since 1956.

Although SSM Cardinal Glennon is located more than 80 miles away, through the pediatric telemedicine program families at St. Mary’s Hospital are able to receive emergency and specialized consultations, evaluations and exams from SLUCare physicians without leaving the Emergency or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) department.

SSM Health Cardinal Glennon’s pediatric telemedicine program provides:

  • Real-time remote consultation and evaluation through interactive, high-definition video and audio communication

MEDS appoints Richard Knight as Assistant Director of Mid-Level Provider Services

December 1st, 2014

MEDS, one of the Midwest’s leading emergency department and hospitalist staffing and management firms, has named Richard Knight, RN, FNP-BC, as Assistant Director of Mid-Level Provider Services. In this new role, Knight will assist with recruiting, training, and retaining MEDS’ team of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other mid-level providers. Knight will report to Susan Drabing, who was named Director of Mid-level Provider Services in 2011.

“At MEDS, our teams of skilled mid-level providers decrease wait times and increase patient satisfaction by caring for less acute cases in emergency departments and urgent care centers,” said Dr. Len Glover, president and chief medical officer of MEDS. “This allows our physicians to spend more time with patients who have serious conditions. We’re thrilled to have Rich and Susan working together to ensure an excellent environment for our growing mid-level provider team.”

Knight will work with Drabing to oversee MEDS’ mid-level practitioners at hospitals throughout Illinois, develop and implement regular training programs and CME courses, support recruiting efforts, and implement new programs to continually improve patient care and operational efficiencies at client hospitals and urgent care centers.

Knight has worked with MEDS as a nurse practitioner for the past five years. Prior to joining MEDS, he worked in the emergency department at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. “To me, MEDS is really a second family,” Knight said. “I’m excited to foster an environment where MEDS’ mid-level practitioners feel the same way.”
