MEDS has been selected to provide emergency department staffing and management services for SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. Good Samaritan Hospital is part of SSM Health in Illinois, one of the largest and fastest-growing healthcare networks in south central Illinois. The 134-bed facility opened in January 2013 and has a 24,000 annual-visit ED.

The hospital selected MEDS based upon the company’s track record of recruiting and retaining core groups of board-certified emergency physicians for similar practice environments. For over 13 years, MEDS has been serving a sister SSM Health hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, IL.

“It’s an honor to work with Good Samaritan, who shares our commitment to high-quality patient care and satisfaction,” said Dr. Len Glover, President and Chief Medical Officer at MEDS. “Our deep experience in emergency medicine has enabled our other hospital clients to better serve their local communities, and we look forward to supporting the Mt. Vernon area for many years to come.”

Close to St. Louis, Good Samaritan Hospital offers a wide range of healthcare services including cardiology, oncology, and orthopedics. For three consecutive years, Healthgrades has presented Good Samaritan Hospital with the Patient Safety Excellence Award. St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, IL, which MEDS has served for more than 20 years, now collaborates on medical evaluations for pediatric patients with SLUCare physicians at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Hospital.

Ranked in U.S. News’ 2015-2016 Best Children’s Hospitals, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital has been caring for the children of St. Louis and beyond since 1956.

Although SSM Cardinal Glennon is located more than 80 miles away, through the pediatric telemedicine program families at St. Mary’s Hospital are able to receive emergency and specialized consultations, evaluations and exams from SLUCare physicians without leaving the Emergency or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) department.

SSM Health Cardinal Glennon’s pediatric telemedicine program provides:

  • Real-time remote consultation and evaluation through interactive, high-definition video and audio communication
  • Around-the-clock remote health care without a transfer to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon in St. Louis, Missouri

A seizing baby. A woman with “rocks in her head.” An older gentleman who collapsed of stomach pain after the last guest left his party. Dale Long, DO, emergency physician at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, IL, shared these stories at the 2015 SSM Health Leadership Conference to inspire his colleagues to achieve excellence in emergency medicine.
